Controlling Others...

"Let's see why a man wants to control and influence another person.
He may hope for a material advantage, such as money. But there is
a deeper motive, a dangerously self-defeating motive. By having
power over others, he thinks it confirms his possession of a
separate ego, a separate self - for where there is the commanded,
there must also be the commander. So in order to preserve the
illusion of being a commander, he seeks every opportunity to
control and influence people and events. But since he does not,
in reality, possess a separate self, the whole show is a tragic
delusion. Sooner or later the curtain must come down on the actor,
leaving him frightened and lonely."
